“Jolene” is one of my favourite writing songs. I have a whole list of them in a playlist on iTunes entitled, “The Western,” that make me think about the story I’m working on, or the characters within, and so this quote by Dolly Parton made me chuckle. Who knew it was a true story?

I always heard she simply named it after a fan whom she thought was attractive. I looked it up in Wikipedia (cause you know how reliable that is!) and both versions are mentioned. By the way, have you heard the White Stripes version? I quite like their take as well.
Yup, I’ve got that one in The Western rotation two or three songs after the Dolly P original. I like it, and The White Stripes in general.
